I am hopeful the new signs with the fine posted will be a deterrent. Police patrols would be a deterrent. I see Captain Scherf patrolling and keeping Medina a safe place to be. The only place I would put a toilet is up on the 520 bike/ walking path near the trash can. The walkers/bikers who use the 520 path are also using the bushes on the south side of the Fairweather field, and the bicyclists are turning north on evergreen point and going down to the parking lot at the tennis courts to go to the bathroom. It is my opinion that people should have a toilet on the path, so they can access it quickly at this central location and go on their journey. I looked at the garbage cans on my walk yesterday. The garbage can on the 520 bike path at Evergreen Point Road was overflowing, which suggests that people are using the area as a destination to eat and drink, increasing their need to find a bathroom. It would be best to keep all the garbage and toileting in one area, and not spread it out through the city. The garbage can at the top of the transit station stairs was 1/2 full. People that take the bus likely need to go to the bathroom on occasion, but perhaps are less likely to use the city as a recreation destination as a rest stop, to eat and drink. If they needed a toilet, they could quickly walk to the bike path area and then go on their way. A toilet should not be placed in the lower park (tennis courts), because the people in motor vehicles are not the problem (except for one or two people who have seemed to have stopped this practice). If you put a toilet at the tennis court area, it would attract even more people to drive there as a full service rest stop area for people that do not live in Medina. From my observation, people that have cars in the tennis court area - are not the people using the park as a toilet (except for people living in cars during the day), as they can drive to a public restroom. People that drive to the parking lot are dog walkers, tennis players, drug users and drug transactions, alcohol users, contractors taking a break, delivery drivers organizing packages, dating APP meet-ups, exercise and sports practice. People do park there to walk the bridge, or bring their bikes in their cars to bike the path. I have many photos of drug wrappers and alcohol containers that I have picked up at the tennis court parking lot over the last year(s). Please share this with the park board for their meeting tonight. Thank you for preserving Medina. Judy Sidell
