PARK BOARD MEETING MINUTES
Virtual/Teleconference
Monday, August 17, 2020
4:00 PM
MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL
Chairperson Gray called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM.
Board Present via Zoom: Bui, Dickmann (online at 4:04pm), Gray, Johnston,
Stengel, McMullen, Emeritus Member: Martin
Board Absent: None
Staff Present via Zoom: Sauerwein, Osada, Nations, Crickmore, Kellerman,
Sergeant Gidlof
2. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Gray announced that Argosy Cruises has cancelled the Christmas Ships Program
for this December 2020 due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
3. APPROVAL OF PARK BOARD MINUTES
ACTION: Motion McMullen second Johnston and carried by a 6-0 vote.
1. Park Board Meeting of June 15, 2020.
Recommendation: Adopt.

4. PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
5. OLD BUSINESS
1. Sidewalk Trimming
Recommendation: Status Update
Staff Contact: Ryan Osada, Public Works Director
Public Works Director Ryan Osada gave update. The notices went out to residents on
Evergreen Point Road regarding trimming guidelines and rules. Osada reported
positive response and feedback from residents. Board Member Rebecca Johnston
thanked the Public Works department for their efforts.
2. Medina Park on Yelp
Recommendation: Status Update
Staff Contact: Ryan Osada, Public Works Director
Public Works Director Ryan Osada gave update. City of Medina has claimed Medina
Park on Yelp. Board Member, Rebecca Johnston agreed to assist Osada on updating
the Yelp page with Park Rules and adding photos to the page.
3. Fairweather Park Update on Residents Concerns
Board Chair, Sarah Gray referred to City Manager Michael Sauerwein for update.
Sauerwein gave overview of the increased Police patrol at Fairweather Park and the
feedback is positive. Sauerwein gave report that the crossbars were painted to add
additional warning of upcoming crosswalk/intersection for bicyclists. Board members
voiced their concerned regarding bicyclists not yielding. Sergeant Gidlof gave update
on officer visibility and interaction with citizens. He reported they have had good
educational conversations with citizens. Sergeant Gidlof reported officers have some
challenges when dealing with bicyclists.
6. NEW BUSINESS
1. Park Enforcement Discussion by Sergeant Austin Gidlof
Sergeant Gidlof thanked residents for reporting issues or suspicious activity because if
an officer doesn’t witness the infraction it’s hard to enforce. This gives the officers a
faster response time. The park board members thanked the police department for their
efforts. Gidlof addressed Park Board members concerns regarding bicyclists and dog
owners.
2. Roadside Planters on 8th Street by Ryan Osada Public Works Director
Public Works Director Ryan Osada gave report on new planters and asked for input
from the park board. Osada to send pictures of planters to the park board members.
3. Park Board Youth Advisory Position Term Limits Discussion
The Park Board members discussed the term limits and gave input.
ACTION: Motion Johnston second Gray and carried by a 6:0
Park Board voted to take their recommendation to the City Council to change
the term limits for the Youth Advisory position to 1 year term and a
new youth advisor be appointed to give more opportunity for youths. If no one applies
the current youth can reapply and be reappointed.

Medina Park - Revising Rules (MMC 12.24.025) for Dogs in the Park
The Park Board discussed and gave recommendations.
ACTION: Motion Gray second Johnston and carried by a 6:0
Set forth a motion to have Medina Park half on leash and half off leash
year round from Bridge to Bridge to Bridge. Park Board Chair will bring this
to City Council on September 14, 2020.
5. Tennis Court Usage by Tennis Instructors Discussion
City Manager Michael Sauerwein gave update and invited Park Board members to
attend the City Council meeting on September 14th to the public hearing and gave
information on what will be discussed. The Park Board members gave their input.
7. PARK REPORTS
Fairweather & Lid Stengal, McMullen stated 2 shrubs are not doing well. Dickmann
will check with nursery for warranty.
Indian Trail Gray stated looks great.
Lake Lane Martin stated looks great.
Medina Beach Park Gray thanked Public Works for their hardwork. Crickmore
updated on the flower beds.
Medina Park Dickmann looks good but lawn is drying out.
Viewpoint Park Gray asked about trash problem. PW reported they have
increased the trash pickup on weekends.
8. REQUESTS FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Ideas for future agenda items:
• Fall Planting – McMullen
• Funds for Park Project 2021 – Osada asked for ideas for projects. Osada stated
$100k is available in the budget includes grant money.
