Virtual Meeting Participation
With the passage of the City’s Proclamation of Local Emergency, City Hall is closed to
the public. Park Board participation in this meeting will be by teleconference/online only.
Members of the public may also participate by phone/online. Individuals wishing to
speak live during the Virtual Park Board meeting will need to register their request with
the Deputy City Clerk at 425.233.6410 or email dnations@medina-wa.gov and leave a
message before 2PM on the day of the February 16 Park Board meeting. Please reference
Public Comments for February 16 Park Board Meeting on your correspondence. The
Deputy City Clerk will call on you by name or telephone number when it is your turn to
speak. You will be allotted 3 minutes for your comment and will be asked to stop when
you reach the 3 minute limit.

unless otherwise specified.

1.CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL
Chairperson Gray called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM.
Board Present via Zoom: Dickmann (online 4:03 pm), Gray, Johnston, McMullen,
Moe, Bui, Martin, Youth Advisor: Schubring
Board Absent: Stengel (excused)
Staff Present via Zoom: Osada, Nations, Crickmore, Sergeant Gidlof
2.ANNOUNCEMENTS
None.
3.APPROVAL OF PARK BOARD MINUTES
ACTION: Motion McMullen second Moe and carried by a 6-0 vote.

5.OLD BUSINESS
1.Playground Equipment Update
Osada gave update and will be meeting with the rep. to measure the playground area
and get examples of equipment to be installed. The next update will be in January
2021. The park board members gave input that they would like an area for kids ages
2-7 years old and for the playground to be all inclusive for kids.
2.Bulb Planting Update
Gray gave update – 600 bulbs were planted at Fairweather Park, Medina Park and
Viewpoint Park. Thank you to all who participated in the planting.

6. NEW BUSINESS
1. Medina Beach Park - Update on Caution Buoys
Sergeant Gidlof gave a brief update that new caution buoys were installed at no charge
by Seattle Harbor Patrol. Gray thanked the Police Department for getting these installed.
2. Fairweather Nature Preserve - Discuss the Unapproved Mountain Bike Path
Public Works gave update. The ramps and bike trail were dismantled. No extensive
damage was done, and plants will grow back. Sergeant Gidlof reported that patrols
are done as time is allowed and asked residents to call 911 if they see any suspicious
activity. New signage will be added to state this is a Nature Preserve.
3. Medina Park - New Signage
Osada gave update that new signage and maps showing the on-leash/off-leash area
for dogs will be added to the park. Postcards with the new rules and map will be
mailed out to all residents the week of November 27, 2020.

1.CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL
Deputy City Clerk Dawn Nations called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM and took roll
call.
Board Present via Zoom: Bui (online 4:02 pm), Gray, Johnston, McMullen,
Moe, Stengel, Youth Advisor: Schubring
Board Absent: Dickmann and Martin
Staff Present via Zoom: Osada, Nations, Crickmore, Sauerwein, Sergeant Gidlof
2.ELECTIONS
1.Elections of Officers:
a) Chair
b) Vice Chair
Deputy City Clerk Dawn Nations called for nominations for Chair.
ACTION: Rebecca Johnston nominated Sarah Gray for Chair.
With no other nominations, the nomination period closed.
Sarah Gray spoke to her nomination.
ACTION: With no objections and by consensus, Sarah Gray was elected as Chair.
Chair, Sarah Gray called for nominations for Vice Chair.
ACTION: Rebecca Johnston nominated Collette McMullen for Vice Chair.
With no other nominations, the nomination period closed.
Collette McMullen spoke to her nomination.
ACTION: With no objections and by consensus, Collette McMullen was elected as Vice
Chair.
3.ANNOUNCEMENTS
Gretchen Stengel asked the Public Works department to remove the dead branches
at Fairweather Park.

6. NEW BUSINESS
1. Park Board Events for 2021
Chair Gray announced the Easter Egg Hunt would be cancelled for 2021 due to current
restrictions on gatherings.
Arbor Day will be on April 30, 2021. This event will be for Park Board Members and City
Staff only.
2. Playground Equipment Update
Ryan Osada, Public Works Director, gave update on Playground equipment proposed
layout. Park Board members gave input. Chair Sarah Gray asked for costs per
area/section. It was discussed to reduce the size of the structures, add ramps, add
toddler play structures, and keep toddler area separated from the older kid play areas.
Osada will bring updated plans to the February 16th meeting.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
1. Medina Park Signage Update
Pat Crickmore, Public Works Supervisor gave update on signage for the new on/off
leash areas for the park. Park Board Member Barbara Moe will assist Public Works
staff with updating the signage. Draft signs will be presented at the February 16th
meeting.
8. PARK REPORTS
Fairweather & Lid Stengel mentioned there is a blown tree was taken care of.
Indian Trail Gray reported looks great.
Lake Lane Looks great.
Medina Beach Park Moe reported the bathroom door is broken. PW repair the lock.
Medina Park Gray reported looks great.
Viewpoint Park
Gray reported looks great. Sergeant Gidlof updated the board
regarding park enforcement and a report from a resident
regarding suspicious activity at ViewPoint Park. Residents are
advised to call 911 if they see any unusual activity. The resident
requested that additional larger signage be added with park
hours. PW works will add signage.
