Virtual Meeting Participation
With the passage of the City’s Proclamation of Local Emergency, City Hall is closed to
the public. Park Board participation in this meeting will be by teleconference/online only.
Members of the public may also participate by phone/online. Individuals wishing to
speak live during the Virtual Park Board meeting will need to register their request with
the Deputy City Clerk at 425.233.6410 or email dnations@medina-wa.gov and leave a
message before 2PM on the day of the March 15 Park Board meeting. Please reference
Public Comments for March 15 Park Board Meeting on your correspondence. The Deputy
City Clerk will call on you by name or telephone number when it is your turn to speak.
You will be allotted 3 minutes for your comment and will be asked to stop when you
reach the 3 minute limit.

1. Playground Equipment Presentation
Recommendation: Discussion item and recommendations.

MINUTES
1.CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL
Chair Sarah Gray called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM.
Board Present via Zoom: Gray, Dickmann, Martin, Moe, Stengel,
McMullen (online 4:22pm)
Board Absent: Bui, Johnston, Schubring
Staff Present via Zoom: Osada, Nations, Sauerwein, Sergeant Gidlof
2.ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ryan Osada announced the March 1st retirement of public works employee Ken
Evjen.
3.APPROVAL OF PARK BOARD MINUTES
ACTION: Motion Stengel second Martin and carried by a 4-0 vote.
1.Park Board Meeting Minutes of:
a)November 16, 2020; and
b)January 12, 2021.
Recommendation: Adopt minutes.

4.PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
5.NEW BUSINESS
1.Medina Park Playground Equipment Update
Recommendation: Discussion item and direction.
Staff Contact: Ryan Osada, Public Works Director
Ryan Osada. Public Works Director gave update and showed the rendering of the
proposed new playground equipment. The proposed plan is approximately $145, 000.
The park board members discussed and asked for additional photos of the proposed
equipment and asked for an onsite visit with Public Works director. Install date is
tentatively planned for Fall 2021.

2. Easter Celebration Options
Chair Sarah Gray announced the Easter Celebrations would not be happening this year
due to current restrictions regarding gatherings. Michael Sauerwein gave a brief
update. The City will not be approving any large park use activities at this time due to
current state restrictions. Gray added that the planning involved for these events would
not be possible, even if restrictions were lifted in the coming months.
3. Planters - Low Maintenance Ground Cover Ideas
Gabriele Dickmann and Gretchen Stengel suggested having a work party to weed and
plant ground coverings and low growing shrubs. Dickmann and Stengel will research
and report back to the board on plants and date to have a work party.
6. OTHER BUSINESS
1. Fairweather Park - Shrub Update
Gretchen Stengel updated the board that the dead shrub was removed and asked Public
Works to tie up the other shrubs for support. Stengel and Dickmann will contact Wells
Medina Nursery about replacing the dead shrub with a new one.
2. New Signage at Medina Park Update
Osada gave update on the new signage and showed proposed signs. The Park Board
made additional suggestions. Park Board Member Barbara Moe will work with Public
Works to finalize the design. The new design will be presented at the March 15th Park
Board meeting for approval. Moe suggested that the new signage be posted inside the
restrooms at Medina Park. All board members agreed on this idea.
7. PARK REPORTS
Fairweather & Lid Stengel reported park is in good shape.
Indian Trail Gray reported looks great.
Lake Lane Martin reported it looks beautiful.
Medina Beach Park Dickmann reported the ground is soggy but looks good for this
time of year.
Medina Park
Gray reported looks good and asked if the parking lot lines could
be repainted. Gray reported the dog station roofs are needing to
be cleaned and asked Public Works to look at the roofs.
Viewpoint Park Moe reported looks good.
8. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 5:11 PM.
