WHEREAS, the Medina Police Department, in consultation with City staff, has
reviewed the City's current Bicycle Ordinance 277 (1972)1- 10.48,010 Voluntary License
Authorization and 10.48.020 Registry of Licensed Bicycles, and
WHEREAS, the Medina Police Department has identified these sections as being
ineffective in the restoration of lost/stolen bicycles and inefficient for City Staff to
maintain and track , and
WHEREAS, the Medina Police Department recommends using an online tracking
system for citizens to use for their personal property of value, and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that repealing 10,48.010 Voluntary License
Authorization and 10,48.020 Registry of Licensed Bicycles, as recommended by the
Medina Police Department, is in the best interests of the City because it ineffective and
no longer necessary.
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MEDINA,
WASHINGTON, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That Chapter 10.48 sections 10,48.010 and section 10,48.020 of the
Medina Municipal Code are hereby repealed in their entirety.
Section 2. Renumbering 10,48,030 - Bicycle Lane Established to 10.48.010 and
10.48.040 Bicycle Lane — Use by vehicles prohibited to 10.48.020.
Section 2. That chapter 10.48 of the Medina Municipal Code is hereby adopted
to read as follows:

10.48.020 Bicycle Lane — Use by vehicles prohibited
10.48.010 Bicycle lane — Established.
An eight -foot wide lane located on or near the westerly boundary of 84th Avenue

10.48.020 Bicycle lane — Use by vehicles prohibited.
It is unlawful for any person, other than public transit operators, to drive, ride or propel
any vehicle, other than a bicycle ' upon and along any bicycle lane constructed within the
city except at street intersections Or entries to pr'ivate driveways which intersect bicycle
Ianes, A person violating the provisions of this section is guilty of a violation punishable
by a fine not to exceed $500.00. (Ord. 4811989)
Section 4. Effective Date, This ordinance shalI take effect five (5) days after
its publication or the publication of a summary of its intent and contents.
