HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 3784; CITY OF MEDINA, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION N NO. 378 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MEDINA, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN A CONTRACT FOR INDIGENT DEFENSE SERVICES t WHEREAS, the sixth amendment to the U.S. constitution grants all criminal defendants the right to an attorney, and 7! WHEREAS, if a defendant cannot afford an attorney, the defendant will be granted one by the governing body, and WHEREAS, the City of Medina is the governing body that, contracts for legal services, to provide legal counsel for indigent criminal defendants for City of Medina criminal cases before the Kirkland Municipal Court, and WHEREAS, the current contract for indigent defense services terminated December 31, 20141, and WHEREAS, the City requested proposals for public defense services and t selected John Price of the O'Brien Law Firm, d/b a O'Brien, Barton & Hopkins, PLLP, after a competitive RFP and interview process; and e t< WHEREAS, the City Attorney has reviewed and approved the proposed contract and scope of work- NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MEDINA, 1 ASHIi GT N, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Contract Authorized. The City Council of the City of Medina, Washington, hereby authorizes the City Manager to sign a contract for Indigent Defense Services with O'Brien Lave Firma, d/b/aO'Brien, Barton & Hopkins, PLLP; said agreement } to be substantially in the form attached hereto as Exhibit "N' and retroactive to January 1, 2015, PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MEI INA AT A REGULAR MEETING THEREOF ON THE 8TH DAY OF JUICE, 20 At atrick Boyd, Mayor Approved }.
