WHEREAS the second Lake Washington bridge now under construction by the State of Washington has its eastern terminus in the City of Medina and will in its eastern half lie within the jurisdiction of our city; and WHEREAS Lake Washington is a beautiful and natural endowment as it graces the citiesof the Seattle metropolitan area the beauty of which should be preserved insofar as nossible in the design of crossing structures.; and finally, BECAUSE a floating bridge and its transition structures isan unusual facility as it lends itself to graceful design upon the example of the first Lake Washington bridge designed a quarter of a century ago, Now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF P;IEDINA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Memorial. We do memorialize the Highway Commission of the State of Washington charged with the responsibility for construction of the second. Lake Washington bridge and the Washington Toll Bridge Authority charged with the responsibility of its, design to consider revision of the plans of the two structural: in the east and westerly transition spansand spanning the navigation channelsnear the easterly and westerly shores with a view to eliminating the common angular through truss type structure and the substitution therefor- of a more graceful form such as: the corresponding structures•a, in the first Lake Washington bridge. Similarly vie do memorialize the City of Seattle and the City of Bellevue and the Towns of Hunt's Point, `_'arrow and Clyde Hill, most closely affected, to support of the Highway Commission and Toll Bridge Authority in reconsideration of the design of this portion of the second Lake Washington bridge. Section 2. Distribution. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward authenticated copies- of this Resolution to the Washington State Highway Commission and Washington State Toll Bridge Authority and to the councils of the cities hereby memorializedo THIS RESOLUTION adopted this 14 day of Iiay, 1962 * e.
