RESOLUTION NO. 65
A RESOLUTION protesting double taxation of collections
remitted entirely to the`Municipality of Metropolitan
Seattle.
WHEREAS, the City of Medina is within the Municipality
of Metropolitan Seattle and a subscriber with Metro to
various contracts by which Metro is facilitated in providing
disposal of sewage originating within the City and the Sewer
District by which the City is provided immediate service,
and
WHEREAS, the Tax Commission of the State has taken a
position that collections made for and on behalf of Metro,
although entirely remitted to Metro, should be taxed as
gross income at the rate of 1%, and
WHEREAS, such determination results in double taxation
of such collections,
Now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MEDINA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City of Medina joins the City of Renton
and other contracting gomrnmental subdivisions and taxing districts
in protesting the determination of the Tax Commission as recited
hereinabove and memorializes association of Washington cities,
the association of Sewer Districts, the Governor, the Metro
Council, and legislators representing districts within the
Municipality of Metropolitan Seattle to seek remedial legisla-
tion and the legislature to provide such remedial legislation
so as to eliminate double taxation of collections made for the
provision of sewage disposal by the Municipality of Metropolitan
Seattle.
Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed
to distribute copies of this resolution to the officers and
agencies herein memorialized.
THIS RESOLUTION adopted this 8th day of November, 1965.
