J A RESOLUTION urging the State Legislature to creation of a balanced Department of Transportation and adoption of enabling and funding legislation to advance realization of mass rapid transit facilities b in the Seattle Metropolitan area and across Lake Washington. WHEREAS balanced systems of transportation are characteristic of -- the great cities of the world, and WHEREAS the varied topography and several bodies of water here make the provision of unlimited highway access extraordinarily expensive In money and other values, and WHEREAS mass transit upon exclusive right-of-way can most efficiently move people at hours of peak traffic movement for the relief of other traffic facilities and speedy carriage of people to their work and recreation, and WHEREAS mass rapid transit can be designed to do minimum damage to other elements of the environment such as air, landscape and natural quiet, Now therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MEDINA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: 1. That the Governor be commended for seeking a balanced Department of Transportation and the Legislature be urged to satisfy his outstanding and reasonable requests regarding such a department. 2. That the Legislature be further urged to adopt enabling and funding legislation sufficient to permit early creation in this area of a mass rapid transit system upon exclusive right-of-way upon the next crossing of Lake Washington and elsewhere and incorporating express transit service, all to the end that the greater Seattle Metropolitan area may mature as a great city of the world with the necessary amenity of a modern, efficient, balanced transportation system. 9. That copies of this Resolution be sent the Governor, our Legislative Representatives, and area cities and communications media. THIS RESOLUTION adopted this 14th day of April, 1969. �. Jay. T.
