A RESOLUTION commending the Seattle City Council for
elimination of the so-called "tolerance policy" toward gam-
bling and urging the King County Council to similar action.
WHEREAS, the Constitution and Statutes of the State of
Washington generally prohibit gambling; and
WHEREAS the essential purpose of government is the general
and uniform enforcement of all such regularly established
laws,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MEDINA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Policy. General and uniform enforcement of all
laws of the state, including those against
gambling, should be the purpose of all its sub-
divisions. It is not properly within their power
to discriminate between laws that will and will
not be enforced or to adopt regulations inconsis-
tent with such laws.
Section 2. Declaration and Memorial. It is hereby declared
at violation of the Constitution and Statutes
of the State of Washington in respect to gambling
will not be permitted within the jurisdiction of
the City of Medina rnd the City does: hereby commend
the Co::ncil of the City of Saattb for eliminating
the so-called "tolerance policy" in respect to
gambling of previous times, and memorializes the
Council of King County to now do likewise. In
execution of this memorial, the City Clerk is
directed to forward authenticated copies of this
resolution to the King County Council and Executive,
the Seattle City Council, and the Board, of Trustees
of the M=icipal League of Seattle and King County.
THIS RESOLUTION adopted the 6th day of September, 1969.
