RESOLUTION No. n4
A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Medina, Washington,
accepting a gift of Ms. Jeanette M. Privet and recognizing the
heroism which occasioned such gift.
WHEREAS, there occurred on November 4, 1972, by the Evergreen Point
Floating Bridge on Lake Washington, within the City, a marine
calamity involving the loss of two lives and salvation of others;
and
WHEREAS, the tragedy could have assumed even greater proportions
except for the heroic efforts of Active Officer Charles M. Rawlinson
of Medi�, —4-- nepartmor' and Recerve Sergeant Royal Duggan of
said force which involved entering the chill waters of the lake,
churned by the high winds against the sheer face of the bridge to
assist passengers from the capsized pleasure vessel driven by
winds against the bridge, and
M EREAS, one of the passengers of the said vessel has thoughtfully
offerred as a gift, the sum of $1,000.00 to the Medina Police Depart—
ment in recognition of such dlstingui.shed effort;
NOW, TRERE@'OR.E, the City Council of the City of Medina does resolve;
Section 1. The thoughtful gift of Ms. Jeanette M. Privet
is gratefu y accapted by the City with the intention that the same
be employed to enhance the safety of users of lake. Washingtonby the
acquisition of water safety equipment and other measures appropriate
to that end.
Section 2. At the same time, the heroic rescue efforts of
Officer Charles M.: Rawlinson and Reserve Sergeant Royal Duggan of
Medina Police Department under trying conditions of the night of
November 4, 1972, be and the same are hereby especially recognized
and the gratitude of the City and of those immediately affected
memorialized.
THIS RESOLUTION adopted on the 13th day of December 1972.
