HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 255RESOLUTION NO. 255 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE BELLEVUE ART MUSEUM AND ITS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN EFFORT WHEREAS, Bellevue Art Museum was founded in 1975 "to promote the art and artists of the region, to build the Eastside's strength as a cultural and arts educational center, and to involve the community in lively and engaging ways;" and WHEREAS, over 55,000 people, including 10,000 children, visited Bellevue Art Museum in 1997; and WHEREAS, Bellevue Art Museum has developed a nationally recognized focus on teaching children about the world of art; and WHEREAS, Bellevue Art Museum's children's programs will reach over 30,000 students in 1998 through programs at both the Museum and in school classrooms around King County; and WHEREAS, Bellevue Art Museum seeks to expand financial and volunteer support for the arts throughout the region by actively supporting efforts for federal, state and local funding for all arts organizations; and WHEREAS, the cultural and intellectual growth of our students, children and leaders of this region is dependent upon education in the arts; and WHEREAS, the need for increased support for the arts should be recognized and given consideration alongside all other major issues facing the future of this state NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Medina; that the Bellevue Art Museum's efforts to expand its cultural presence in the region through a capital campaign to build a new facility, is recognized and honored by the members of the Council. PASSED unanimously by a vote of the City Council this 14th day of September, 1998. ATTEST: Mayor City Clerk
