HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-01-2001 - MinutesMeeting Minutes City Council Special Meeting Medina City Hall December 1, 2001 - 8:00 a.m. Present: Mayor Becker, Councilmembers Demitriades, Lawrence, Odermat and Preston. Staff Present: Mike Knapp, Police Chief; Jan Burdue, Finance Officer; and Doug Schulze, City Manager. Mayor Becker called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. City Manager Schulze reviewed a memorandum and recommendations for 2002 budget adjustments. Discussion regarding revenue options presented by City Manager Schulze. Council consensus to increase projected sales and use tax revenues to $1,200,000, Local Criminal Justice tax revenues to $40,000, Building Permit fees to $575,000, Liquor Excise tax revenues to $8,000 and Liquor Board Profits to $16,000. A brief discussion occurred regarding use of a utility tax for funding of capital projects. Council members agreed to defer the discussion to another time. Discussion regarding expenditure reductions presented by City Manager Schulze. Council consensus to reduce expenditures as follows: Expenditure City Council Retreat Meeting Room Chairs Management Intern Minor Equipment Special Legal Counsel Fairweather Preserve Medina Beach Park Public Facilities Proposed Amount $ 8,000.00 $ 4, 500.00 $ 8,145.00 $ 7,000.00 $ 80,000.00 $ 20,000.00 $100,000.00 $ 25,000.00 Reduced Amount $ 4,000.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 3,500.00 $40, 000.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 The City Council discussed and agreed to the use of fund balances held in reserves for issues related to the Trans Lake Washington Project and jet noise mitigation in an amount of $100,000. Schulze presented several alternatives for service delivery cost savings that the Council deferred to the 2002 City Council retreat. Motion by Demitriades, second by Odermat to adjourn.
